Genetic counselling helps you understand how genetic conditions may affect you or your family.
It involves exploring your personal and family history , discussing test options (if relevant), and supporting you to make informed decisions reflecting your values.
-
In a genetic counselling session, we will discuss your medical and family history, explain any relevant conditions or testing options, and help you explore your choices. Sessions are tailored to your needs and include emotional support and education; we will help you make an informed decision that is right for you.
-
We offer genetic counselling services for many different reasons. You may benefit from genetic counselling if:
You have a genetic condition
You have a family member or partner with a genetic condition
You are planning a pregnancy
You are pregnant and considering genetic screening or testing
Your child has been diagnosed with a genetic condition
You have received complex genetic results
A genetic counsellor can guide you through your options, explain information clearly, and support you and your family emotionally and practically.
